Microsoft is shutting down Outlook Lite on May 26, 2023, due to a decision to retire the application following its initial launch in 2022, according to Neowin.
The closure of Outlook Lite affects users who relied on this lightweight version of the Outlook app, designed for Android devices with limited storage and in regions with slower internet speeds. Microsoft previously stated that Outlook Lite would be removed from the Google Play Store in October 2025, but it has now confirmed that existing users will lose functionality next month.
This development underscores Microsoft’s strategic shift towards consolidating its email services under Outlook Mobile, which offers a more comprehensive and secure experience. “To continue enjoying a secure and feature-rich email experience, we recommend switching to Outlook Mobile,” Microsoft stated in a recent support page for Outlook Lite.
Outlook Lite users can still access their emails, calendar items, and attachments by switching to Outlook Mobile. Users will be redirected to the Google Play Store to download the standard Outlook app.
