A new build of WhatsApp on TestFlight indicates that the app is preparing to integrate Status updates into the Chats tab. This change aims to enhance the visibility of Status updates, drawing parallels with Instagram’s Stories feature.

Although WhatsApp Status has not been as prominent in the app as Stories have in other Meta products, the company appears to be prioritizing this functionality. WABetaInfo reported earlier that the latest beta for Android hinted at including Status updates in the main Chat list view, which is now also reflected in the TestFlight build.

When implemented, users will encounter a carousel of Status updates from their contacts at the top of the Chats tab. However, this feature will not be visible by default. Users will need to pull down from the top of the chat list to access the Status update tray, similar to how Stories operate in Telegram.

The interface in the new update resembles Instagram’s Stories carousel. Users will initially see a shortcut to publish their own Status updates, followed by updates from contacts. The tray will prioritize updates based on contact relevance, ensuring that more frequently interacted contacts’ updates appear first.

At the end of the tray, there will be an option to view status updates that users have muted. Status updates will refresh every 24 hours and will include features such as stickers, music, and effects.

There is currently no official timeline for the release of this feature. However, references in both iOS and Android builds suggest a potential rollout may happen soon, as Meta continues to develop this functionality across platforms.
