Amazon is rolling out software update version 5.19.3.0.1 for supported Kindle devices, replacing the earlier version 5.19.3, which was withdrawn due to significant bugs and performance issues.

This update targets users of devices such as the Kindle Scribe and newer Kindle Paperwhites, aiming to enhance PDF functionality and overall performance stability. The release notes highlight improved support for USB-transferred PDFs, allowing sideloaded documents to function more like native Kindle files. Users can expect proper text selection, highlights, notes, and improved navigation.

The Kindle Scribe now allows users to write directly on PDFs, while color models can display sideloaded PDFs in color. These enhancements were part of a long-awaited fix for previous shortcomings. Version 5.19.3.0.1 includes general bug fixes and stability updates. The update installs automatically over Wi-Fi or can be downloaded manually from Amazon’s website.

Early feedback on this update suggests that at least one previously reported issue has been resolved, although users remain cautious about potential new problems. Amazon has not detailed specific improvements beyond the PDF features.

This update follows the withdrawal of version 5.19.3, indicating Amazon’s response to user complaints about performance issues. The resolution appears to prioritize user experience with sideloaded content.
