Apple is testing a 200MP sensor for a future iPhone model, according to a post on Weibo by tipster Digital Chat Station.
This development suggests Apple may integrate higher resolution camera technology comparable to current Android offerings, potentially impacting the premium smartphone camera market.
Digital Chat Station cited supply chain sources for the claim. The tipster stated Apple is evaluating a 1/1.12-inch sensor for the primary rear camera. This sensor size is similar to one expected in the upcoming Oppo Find X9 Ultra, which is rumored to feature dual 200MP cameras.
The sensor is anticipated to be commercially available in 2025. However, this does not confirm its inclusion in the next iPhone generation. The vivo X300 Ultra, a forthcoming phone, has already confirmed a dual 200MP camera setup. This device will incorporate a 200MP Sony LYTIA-901 1/1.12-inch sensor and a 200MP Samsung HP0 sensor for its telephoto lens.
