Apple Music will enable record labels and distributors to flag artificial intelligence-generated or AI-assisted content during upload.

The move introduces new metadata options aimed at increasing transparency regarding AI’s use in music, impacting content identification and potentially user interaction.

According to Music Business Worldwide, Apple informed industry partners of the change in a newsletter distributed on Wednesday.

The new metadata tags allow distributors to specify if AI is involved in a song’s artwork, track, composition, or music video.

Current metadata fields typically include song title, album title, genre, and artist name.

The system relies on labels or distributors to manually opt-in to flag their use of AI. Spotify is implementing a similar approach.

Platforms such as Deezer are developing in-house AI-detection tools, though accuracy remains a challenge for these systems.
