Spotify is rolling out a new feature for Premium users that reorders playlists based on musical key and BPM (beats per minute) to create smoother transitions between tracks. This builds on the custom transitions feature the streaming service launched in August of last year, designed to eliminate awkward silences between songs.
The Smart Reorder feature allows users to rearrange playlists with a single action. To use it, users tap “Mix” on a playlist, select the “Edit” button, and scroll to the “Smart Reorder” option. Tapping this automatically rearranges the songs according to their key and BPM. Users then click “Save” to apply the changes.
Since introducing custom transitions, users have streamed over 220 hours of mixed playlists. Spotify highlighted popular transitions on the platform, including The Weeknd’s “Wake Me Up” into “After Hours” and Flo Rida’s “Low” into Rihanna’s “S&M.”
