Google announced a new agent in its Opal app that creates automated workflows using text prompts. The feature allows users to build mini-apps that plan and execute tasks without manual intervention. It utilizes the Gemini 3 Flash model to automatically select tools required for execution.

The agent can use Google Sheets to maintain memory across sessions, such as preserving a shopping list for an e-commerce app. These agents are natively interactive, asking users for additional information or offering choices to determine next steps when needed. Google states this enables non-technical users to build complex workflows within their applications.

Opal launched for U.S. users in July 2025. In October 2025, Google expanded the tool to 15 additional countries: Canada, India, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil, and Singapore. One month later, Opal became available in over 160 countries. In December 2025, Google integrated Opal into the Gemini web app, introducing a visual editor that requires no code.

Competitors in this space include Lovable and Replit. Other startups gaining prominence include former Replika founder’s Wabi, SoftBank and Lightspeed-backed Emergent, and Accel-backed Rocket.new.
