AMD CEO Lisa Su stated during the company’s latest earnings call that Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox console, featuring a semi-custom system-on-chip (SOC) from AMD, is progressing well to support a launch in 2027.

Su also noted that Valve remains on track to begin shipping its AMD-powered Steam Machine early this year.

The comments follow Xbox President Sarah Bond’s announcement in mid-2025 of a multi-year partnership between Microsoft and AMD for future consoles. Bond highlighted the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning in upcoming Xbox games. She added that the companies plan to co-engineer silicon across devices, including those in living rooms and handheld formats.

Leaked documents from the FTC vs. Microsoft court case previously indicated Microsoft’s original plan for the next Xbox as a hybrid platform combining local hardware and cloud computing, with a targeted release in 2028.

Microsoft launched the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in 2020, which have not sold as well as the Xbox One.
