WhatsApp provides default end-to-end encryption for personal messages and calls to ensure a private and secure experience. The company continues to add security layers to its platform.
For users at high risk of sophisticated cyber attacks, such as journalists and public figures, WhatsApp is launching Strict Account Settings. This lockdown-style feature enhances security by automatically blocking attachments and media from unknown senders, silencing calls from unknown contacts, and applying other restrictive settings that may limit app functionality.
Users can activate Strict Account Settings through WhatsApp Settings, then Privacy, and then Advanced. The feature will roll out to users in the coming weeks.
Strict Account Settings forms part of WhatsApp’s ongoing work to protect users from advanced cyber threats. Additional details and usage instructions are available in WhatsApp’s help resources.
