Apple has officially unveiled the second-generation AirTag, marking the first major update to its popular item tracker since the original launched in 2021. The new AirTag brings significant improvements to help users find their belongings more easily, including a substantially louder speaker and extended Precision Finding range.

The announcement comes as Apple kicks off 2026 with a focus on refining its existing product lineup. The new AirTag maintains the same compact, circular design that users have come to love while packing in upgraded technology under the hood.

The standout feature of the new AirTag is its 50% louder speaker, which Apple says allows users to hear the device from up to twice as far away. This addresses one of the most common complaints about the original AirTag, where the speaker could be difficult to hear in noisy environments or when the tracker was buried deep in a bag.

Additionally, Apple has upgraded the Ultra Wideband technology with a second-generation chip that delivers up to 1.5x greater Precision Finding range. This means iPhone users can now get accurate direction and distance readings from further away, making it easier to locate misplaced items without having to wander aimlessly.

Apple continues its environmental commitment with the new AirTag. The device features 85% recycled plastic in its enclosure and 100% recycled rare earth elements in all magnets. The packaging is now 100% fiber-based, aligning with Apple’s goal to become carbon neutral by 2030.

The AirTag retains practical features like the user-replaceable CR2032 battery that lasts over a year, IP67 water and dust resistance, and seamless integration with the Find My network of over a billion Apple devices worldwide.

The new AirTag is available to order now from Apple’s website and retail stores. Pricing remains unchanged from the original, with a single AirTag priced at $29 and a four-pack available for $99. Users can also add free personalization with initials and emoji characters when ordering from Apple.

The device requires an iPhone running iOS 26.0 or later for full functionality, including the enhanced Precision Finding features. iPad users will need iPadOS 26.0 or later.
