Apple has reportedly delayed the launch of its 18-inch foldable iPad until 2029, with the device expected to cost up to $3,900. This news aligns with the company’s ongoing strategy to shift production for some of its devices away from China.
Vietnam has become a key manufacturing location, handling production for the new Vision Pro, which features an M5 chip, and its accompanying Dual Knit headband. The majority of AirPods, Apple Watches, iPads, and HomePods are also now produced in the country. Future smart home devices, including a smart display, an indoor security camera, and a tabletop robot, are also slated for production in Vietnam.
Apple’s manufacturing diversification extends to other regions. Some Mac computers are now being produced in Thailand and Malaysia. The iPhone 17 lineup sold in the United States will be primarily manufactured in India. Additionally, the company plans for the cover glass used in all iPhones and Apple Watches to be made in the United States.
