Qualcomm moved its chip manufacturing from Samsung Foundry to TSMC starting with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, a decision prompted by low production yields for the Samsung-made Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Now, a report from a Korean news outlet suggests Samsung will again manufacture a specific chip variant for Qualcomm.

While the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, announced in late September, is built on TSMC’s 3nm node, the report indicates Samsung will produce the “for Galaxy” iteration. This specialized system-on-chip (SoC) is expected to be more than an overclocked version of the standard model. It will reportedly be manufactured using Samsung’s own 2nm GAA process.

The report also details the intended application for this new chip. It is slated for use in Samsung’s 2026 foldable devices, not the Galaxy S26 series as some had speculated. According to the report, the primary Galaxy S series lineup will instead use the Exynos 2600 processor.
