Xiaomi has officially announced the upcoming launch of its Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max smartphones later this month in China, opting to skip the number 16 in its naming convention to align more closely with Apple’s scheme.
The company inadvertently revealed the rear design of the 17 Pro Max through its official Weibo account, showcasing the rumored rear display before quickly removing the image. This design matches a leak that surfaced just a week prior, suggesting the post may have been an error or an intentional teaser for the flagship series.
Qualcomm has confirmed that all three models will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, addressing recent speculation about the processor’s naming. The standard Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro are anticipated to share the same dimensions, with the Pro variant featuring superior cameras and potentially an enhanced display. In contrast, the 17 Pro Max is expected to adopt a larger form factor, emulating Apple’s tiered sizing approach.
This move positions Xiaomi’s next-generation devices as direct competitors in the premium Android market, emphasizing high-performance hardware and innovative features like the secondary rear screen on the Pro Max model.
