YouTube is testing a new video collaboration feature allowing creators to tag colleagues directly in their uploads. This tool mirrors similar collaboration capabilities already established on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
According to an announcement posted by a Google employee on YouTube Help, the feature enables creators to tag collaborators within the video itself. This is designed to make it easier for viewers to discover and follow all participants involved in a collaborative project.
The functionality is currently being tested with a small group of trusted creators. YouTube reportedly intends to broaden the availability of this feature more widely in the future.
A notable example showcasing the new tagging capability is a recent video uploaded by MrBeast. In it, he collaborated with creators Mark Rober, Ben Azelart, and the Stoke Twins, all tagged using the feature.
The YouTube tagging system functions similarly to counterparts on Instagram and TikTok: clicking on the main creator’s name triggers a pop-up window displaying all tagged collaborators. Each collaborator listed within this pop-up has a subscribe button adjacent to their name.
It is anticipated that creators will not be able to tag anyone arbitrarily. Instead, collaborators will likely need to accept an invitation before they can be officially listed as co-authors on the video, ensuring mutual consent for the collaboration tag.
