TikTok is reportedly developing a new, separate app specifically for the U.S. market to comply with U.S. legislation mandating either a sale or a ban. This new application is anticipated to launch on September 5, requiring current U.S. users to migrate to continue service.

Upon the new app’s release, the existing TikTok app will be removed from U.S. app stores and cease functioning around March of next year. While the report suggests a connection to the U.S. government’s ban threats, specific details are scarce.

Concurrently, U.S. President Trump announced that a “group of very wealthy people” will acquire TikTok’s U.S. operations from Chinese parent company ByteDance. The identities of these buyers are expected to be revealed later this month. This acquisition will likely necessitate approval from the Chinese government.
