Xiaomi has launched an Android 16 Developer Preview Program for its flagship smartphones, Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 14T Pro, allowing app developers to optimize their apps for the upcoming OS version.
Xiaomi is among the first few manufacturers to embrace Android 16, ahead of the official stable release expected in the coming months. With Android 16 already hitting Platform Stability with Beta 3, Xiaomi’s move mirrors the pace of Google and OnePlus, who also recently began preview rollouts. The Xiaomi 15, launched with Android 15 and powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and Xiaomi 14T Pro, originally running Android 14 with a MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chip, are both included in this initiative. This cross-platform support signals Xiaomi’s commitment to delivering consistent updates across both Qualcomm and MediaTek-powered devices.
The Developer Preview is aimed at app developers looking to optimize their apps for the upcoming OS version using Xiaomi hardware. The program is specifically designed for development and testing purposes, and users shouldn’t expect new HyperOS features in this build.
To try the beta, users must first ensure their devices are updated to specific OS versions: Xiaomi 15 users must have OS version 2.0.109.0.VOCMIXM or later, and Xiaomi 14T Pro users need OS version 2.0.103.0.VNNMIXM or later. There are two ways to install the preview: Local Update and Fastboot Method. For the Local Update method, users can download the ROM from Xiaomi’s Android Beta page and install it through the device settings. The Fastboot Method requires an unlocked bootloader and technical know-how, and it will wipe all device data, so backups are essential.
An Android Beta Feedback app is included to report bugs and issues directly to Xiaomi during the testing phase, facilitating a smoother development process. As Google continues to polish Android 16, with the stable build expected soon, Xiaomi’s developer-focused release sets the stage for broader updates and improvements in the near future.
