Valve to update CS:GO with its Source 2 engine

Valve, may be preparing to launch a significant update to the CS:GO, according to esports journalist Richard Lewis’s sources. Forbes’ report suggest that Valve is planning to release a new version of CS:GO on the company’s Source 2 engine as early as March. This update would be a major milestone for the game, which has not seen a significant engine update since its release in 2012.

CS:GO Source 2: Richard Lewis’ latest report made fans go crazy

Richard Lewis, a reputable esports journalist, has stated that Valve has invited a team of professional CS:GO players to try out the updated game at the company’s headquarters in Seattle. This move suggests that Valve is getting closer to releasing a new version of the game on the Source 2 engine, which is already used in some of Valve’s other games, including Dota 2 and Half-Life: Alyx. By migrating CS:GO to this engine, the game could potentially see better performance and improved graphics.

“Specific details of the game included that it will, of course, be on the Source 2 engine, a move that should improve the optimisation and graphical fidelity of the game. That is likely to come at a cost of performance for players with low-end PCs, although Valve historically has always had a philosophy of empowering those with every-day gaming rigs to be able to play their games,” Lewis said in its blog post.

This is not only a game engine update

Valve is reportedly working on several other upgrades alongside the potential Source 2 engine update for CS:GO. Richard Lewis’s sources suggest that the updated game may feature an improved matchmaking system that more closely resembles the popular third-party platforms used by players, such as FACEIT or ESEA. Additionally, Valve is expected to double the tick rate of the game servers from 64 to 128, which could result in less latency during online matches. These improvements could make CS:GO a more competitive and enjoyable experience for players.

It’s surprising to think that Valve would release a significant update to CS:GO with little to no prior notice, given that the game has been around for over a decade. However, there is other evidence that suggests an upgrade may be imminent. Recently, a Reddit user named u/DAOWAce found two executable files, “csgos2.exe” and “cs2.exe,” included in Nvidia drivers released last week.

While these files could be a coincidence or a red herring, they could also indicate that Valve is preparing to launch the updated game on the Source 2 engine soon. Only time will tell if this is the case.

While the discovery of the “csgos2.exe” and “cs2.exe” files may suggest that Valve is releasing a new game, Twitter users @gabefollower and @aquaismissing believe that the files merely indicate that Valve is migrating CS:GO to the Source 2 engine, and that the file names may be a result of developer oversight.

It won't be new game, it won't be Counter-Strike 2, it won't be even a rebrand, just CS:GO Source 2

And your skins are fine, they will be available in new version.

Regardless, it seems that the updated game is on the verge of being released, as Richard Lewis reports that it’s “about ready to go.”

Making sure you all understood it right, once again:

– NVIDIA got CS:GO Source 2 Game Profile
– Source 2 is happening; it's a real thing with it's own executable 'csgos2.exe'
– 'cs2.exe' is old and irrelevant, your skins are safe, no separate games are being made https://t.co/a5cBKxEtF4

Fans of the game are eagerly awaiting this release and are looking forward to seeing what the updated version has to offer.

If Valve does plan to release the updated version of CS:GO in late March or early April, we can expect to hear official news about it from the company soon. However, even the possibility of such an update has generated immense buzz within the gaming community, thanks in no small part to Richard Lewis’s report.

Given the significance of the news, it’s unlikely that excitement surrounding the update will die down anytime soon. Fans of the game will be eagerly awaiting any further announcements from Valve.

During the times of updates, some games might have minor issues. You can check out our guide to learn how to fix the “stuck on connecting to CS:GO network” error.
