Customize the Lock Screen
The ability to customize the Lock Screen with multi-layered backgrounds, widgets, custom fonts for the date and time and more is the main new feature in iOS 16. You may also choose which photographs will swap on the Lock Screen during the day.
The new Lock Screen collection features a variety of Lock Screen alternatives, including a new Weather wallpaper with real-time weather updates and an Astronomy wallpaper featuring views of the Earth, Moon, and Solar System. iOS 16 supports several Lock Screen designs, allowing you to switch between them with a swipe.
Edit or unsend an iMessage
iOS 16 adds the option to modify or unsend iMessages momentarily, as well as flag iMessage chats as unread after opening them. Apple enables you to change an iMessage for up to 15 minutes after you send it, with a maximum of five revisions per message. Recipients can view a history of message revisions, and altered messages are received as a new message with the text “Edited to [new message]” on smartphones running iOS 15 or older.
Simply press and hold on a bubble and pick the relevant option from the menu that displays to modify or unsend a message. Edited iMessages are labeled “edited” beneath the message bubble. SMS messages (green bubbles) are not editable or resendable.
Use the fullscreen Music Player
iOS 16 brings back a full-screen music player with huge album art and color-matched wallpaper to the Lock Screen. In 2016, Apple included a full-screen music player on the Lock Screen in iOS 10. If you don’t like the functionality, you may minimize the music player and return to your usual Lock Screen wallpaper by tapping on the bottom of the display.
Game with Nintendo Joy-Cons
On iOS 16, iPhones support several more Bluetooth game controllers, including the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Cons and Pro Controller. iPhones running iOS 16 may utilize either a single left or right Joy-Con, or both at the same time as a single controller. This is in addition to the iPhone’s previous support with PS5 DualSense and Xbox Series X controllers, which was introduced with iOS 14.5 last year.
Track an Apple Pay order
For online orders made with Apple Pay, iOS 16 includes new built-in order tracking information in the Wallet app. The tracker offers an expected delivery date for order and shows when a shipment is ready for delivery.
Close your rings without an Apple Watch
With iOS 16, the Fitness app is now available on the iPhone for all users, even those who do not own an Apple Watch. The software includes a daily Activity ring that estimates a person’s calories burnt and steps per day using the iPhone’s motion sensors. Apple stated during its iPhone 14 presentation that its Fitness+ program will be accessible for iPhone users without an Apple Watch later this year in the 21 countries where it is already offered. Fitness+ costs $9.99 per month or $79.99 annually.
