The long-awaited Instagram repost feature is in developement. One of the most widely used social media platforms, Instagram, is getting ready to launch a new feature. Users will be able to repost a post that has already been made by another user thanks to this new capability. The Meta-owned firm hasn’t made the Instagram repost option publicly available yet, but it intends to start testing it with a small number of users soon. Matt Navarra, a social media expert, noticed this new function first. On Twitter, Navarra posted a screenshot of this fresh Instagram feature.

You could see the standard old tabs on your Instagram profile in the photograph he provided. However, a new tab was present alongside the other ones. It has the label “Reposts.” This tab will keep track of all of your reposted posts so you can quickly identify them from your original posts.
Instagram users who want to repost posts occasionally do so using third-party apps because there isn’t a straightforward mechanism to do so right now. When it comes to resharing posts, the inclusion of a repost option would eliminate the necessity for workarounds.
Although you can now share someone else’s post in your Story, it’s important to note that this new repost functionality will allow you to share the post in your feed. Instagram is attempting to give users a better option to widely share posts they enjoy even though it is probably aware that many of its users already use the Stories sharing tool and also use DMs to share posts with friends.
Instagram repost feature is confirmed by officials
Instagram confirmed that they are definitely developing the Instagram Repost feature after rumors circulated on social media. In fact, testing was already a stage of development. Their claim was as follows:
“We’re exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed – similar to how you can reshare in Stores – so people can share what resonates with them, and so original creators are credited for their work[…] We plan to test this soon with a small number of people.”
Instagram appears to have been late on this, even though Twitter and TikTok already have their own “Repost” tool. Currently, posting content to your Instagram story is the only way to share it. This method is less efficient than those used by Twitter and Tiktok since Instagram stories disappear after 24 hours.
How the Instagram repost feature works?
In order for your followers to see the post as they stroll through their timeline, the new “Repost” option will share it to Instagram feeds and Reels. However, the post’s original author will be given credit for it.
All Instagram Posts and Reels will have a share menu with a repost option. As a result, you can share a post or reel that you find interesting from another user with your followers. Before reposting, you can even add your own captions.
Reposts appear to have been in development on Instagram for at least a few months, as app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi first noticed the function in April. Users will be able to access the repost option in the share menu, according to screenshots that Paluzzi shared. The screenshots also imply that when resharing a post, users would have the ability to add their own commentary.

The majority of Instagram users have actually called for the platform to return to its origins rather than clamoring for more features. Reposting functionality may alienate some users from Instagram even more, especially if it was lifted from other social media platforms.
