According to reports, the popular social media platform is working on a new feature called Instagram Templates, which will allow users to build Reels by borrowing elements from other videos on the platform. The function appears to be comparable to TikTok’s own templates tool, which lets content providers insert their own material into a pre-made sequence.
What are Instagram Templates?
In January, reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi discovered an early version of Instagram Templates, while marketing manager and influencer Josephine Hill has already used the feature. It appears that users might place their own videos into pre-designed frames as well as add their own audio in a screenshot shared by Hill in March. This may help customers save time by not having to use third-party templates from sites like Canva or spend time learning how to achieve a specific style via online tutorials, according to Hill, reported by Insider.

A Meta spokesperson said in a statement to Insider:
“We are always working on new ways to make Reels simpler to create,” adding “We are testing the ability for you to make a reel using an existing Template from another reel.”
The test comes as Instagram attempts to entice more creators to join Reels, and it aims to address one of its key concerns: TikTok reposts. Last year, Instagram announced that it would stop promoting Reels with TikTok watermarks, and this week, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri revealed that the platform will be punishing reposts even further. The addition of Instagram Templates might make it simpler to shoot films and, as a result, lead to the development of more unique content.
