Telegram, the biggest WhatsApp rival, is adding the group video call feature, that has been so successful in Facebook’s application, to the beta version of the app.
Video calls have become very popular because of the pandemic and people used WhatsApp‘s group video calls a lot. The platform brings this feature and updates its beta version with this and other options.
Group video calls arrive with Telegram beta
The new beta version 7.8.0, integrates many new features. First of all, Telegram will have support for group video calls although it does not indicate what will be the limit for the number of participants. As it appears in the beta version, it seems that the launch is getting closer, although there is still no official date.
Telegram has decided to take its version of Clubhouse a step further. Those audio channels will be highlighted with the hashtag #vid and with them the platform will look a little more like Instagram and other social networks.
The update also adds new gradient backgrounds and animated stickers. It also means a change in the app’s design: the search button is moved to the start of the chat in the Favorites section and appears from a list of active voice chats in the Calls section of the app’s side menu. All these new features are still in the testing phase and may be launched soon.
