Instagram is implementing the option that allows users to clarify their pronouns in their profiles. An option that has been available on Facebook and other apps for some time now.
At the moment, it is only available in a few countries, but they hope to extend it to more users in the future.
Instagram adds a new option in profile settings
Instagram announced that the option to define pronouns in profiles is now available in some countries. We have already seen that many users have opted to clarify the pronouns they want to be referred to in Twitter bios or Instagram profiles.
Other apps have long since added this option in the settings, such as OkCupid, which allows users to choose their pronouns by adding different gender and sexual orientation options. And perhaps one of the first to add this option was Facebook, which now allows the choice of pronouns to also be part of the Instagram profile settings.
As you can see in the image above, this setting can be found in “Edit profile” along with the options to add the user’s name and nickname. Instagram allows you to add up to 4 pronouns in the profile, which will be displayed next to the name in the profile.
Of course, this information can be changed as many times as the user wishes, as is the case with most of the settings data. Another option that is added when completing this field in the profile settings is to indicate whether you want the chosen pronouns to be visible publicly or only to friends.
And in case the pronoun that the user wishes to add is not contemplated among the Instagram options, a form can be completed so that they can be added in the future. At the moment, this option is only available in many countries that have not been specified, and they hope to reach more in the future.
