ByteDance CFO becomes TikTok CEO
TikTok faces its growth with a strategic reorganization of its leadership positions.
The CFO of ByteDance, the company to which the trendy social network belongs, will also become CEO of TikTok. This is Shouzi Chew, who has been with the Chinese company since the beginning of the year and has experience in both technology and investment.
He led “a team that was among our first investors,” notes Yiming Zhang, ByteDance’s founder, and CEO, who points out that this signing “brings deep knowledge of the company and the industry,” has also “worked in the technology sector for a decade.”
“He will add depth to the team, focusing on areas including corporate governance and long-term business initiatives,” it adds.
This appointment comes alongside the confirmation of Vanessa Pappas as COO of TikTok. This means that the executive will continue with her current responsibilities, following a period in which she has served as interim head.
“Vanessa has provided strong leadership and will continue to oversee her current portfolio of responsibilities, including the management of all key operations of the platform,” explains Yiming Zhang.
Pappas has been part of TikTok since late 2018 and has a long career in the video platform space, including a stint at YouTube.
“Shou and Vanessa’s leadership team set the stage for sustained growth,” Zhang is confident.
