At this point, we should not be surprised by the announcement that Reels will start showing ads since it is the main source of income for Facebook.
Instagram Reels will show ads soon
Instagram says that the ads in Reels will initially arrive in a test phase in India, Brazil, Germany, and Australia, although they will be expanding to other markets over time.
Unlike ads in Stories, users will be able to interact with Reels ads as another video content, they will be able to skip them, as well as watch them, comment on them, share them with other contacts, or even save them if necessary.
Sticky ads for Facebook Stories
On the other hand, Facebook has also presented the preview of sticky ads for Facebook Stories, which for now will be in the hands of selected advertisers and creators. The idea is to share a percentage of the revenue with creators.
Users will notice that these are sticky ads because they will carry the label “sponsored” displayed in a fairly discreet way. For now, these features are in the testing phase, we’ll see what happens next.
