Over the past week, a rumor has arisen that follows the trend of the current phone market. If Huawei has Leica, Nokia has ZEISS, and OnePlus has Hasselblad, new leaks suggest that Samsung has found a partner in the Japanese photography brand Olympus, intending to improve the mobile photography experience with Galaxy phones.
Several prestigious media outlets have echoed this partnership and it is quite likely that both the Samsung Galaxy S22 and the foldable Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will come out boasting the camera maker’s lenses. This has led graphic designer Technizo Concept to produce a series of renders of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, expected in early 2022, with a 200MP Olympus camera and the now quasi-confirmed S Pen compatibility.
This would be the Samsung Galaxy S22 with Olympus cameraThe 200MP camera lens is extra-large, in line with the current trend of smartphones such as the Xiaomi Mi 11 and the expected Huawei P50 Pro that has been leaked with an extra-large circular camera module. This type of larger lens means more light can be captured, which improves image quality in low-light conditions.
Housing such a large MP sensor is because Samsung Exynos already released a teaser last week via Twitter in which it became clear that the company is developing a 200MP camera sensor. it would be the successor to the 108MP image sensor that can be found in the current Galaxy S21 Ultra, among other models on the market.
Therefore, it would not be at all unusual that as happened this year the new sensor will be the first to be used in the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
It is still unknown in what areas Olympus’ expertise will be used, as it may be related to image processing and color calibration as OnePlus has done with Hasselblad or with the manufacture of a particular lens or help in the development of the photosensor.
