5G is undoubtedly one of the technologies of the future. Thanks to it we will have a more stable connection and we will be able to download data at higher speeds. However, the 5G we currently have is far from what we were promised at the beginning and it is still a slightly faster 4G connection.
However, 5G is being a perfect excuse to sell us new models of smartphones. All current high-end smartphones are compatible with 5G, so if you want to make use of this technology you have no choice but to get your wallet out.
Among the 5G smartphones, the iPhone 12 stands out, which is one of the best-selling phones of the year. However, and from what we have recently learned, the iPhone 12’s 5G is light years away from that offered by virtually all Android models. Why is that?
A report shows that the iPhone 12’s 5G is behind most of the Android smartphones
According to a recent report by OpenSignal, 5G speeds between iOS and Android are quite different. That report has done a complete comparison measuring 5G speeds with an iPhone 12 as well as different US Android models and the results are surprising.
We assume that the 5G speed on an iPhone 12 is 2.3 times faster than using 4G, but despite all this, the results are far behind what Android offers. The Cupertino phone is behind up to 25 Android devices.
As reported by OpenSignal, the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G is the fastest device on the list. What’s more, Samsung is the company with the highest number of “fast” 5G smartphones, accounting for 60% of the list. The TCL Revvl 5G and OnePlus 8T+ occupy the second and third positions respectively. The LG Velvet is the 25th phone, or what is the same, the device just above the iPhone 12. A mid-range with a 5G faster than a high-end.
What is the reason that the iPhone 12 is behind all these handsets? According to analyst Ian Fogg, the problem may come from the RF connector as well as the processor, although the causes are not yet entirely clear.
The only clear thing is that if someone wants to surf at the maximum possible speed with 5G, the iPhone 12 is not going to be their best option.
