Samsung has released some updates for the first-generation Galaxy Watch and Watch Active, some features of the Galaxy Watch 3 are reaching older models.
Samsung is one of the most prominent companies worldwide when it comes to smartwatches. The company’s main focus is on premium watches, and they demonstrate this with great long-term support when it comes to updates to its Tizen operating system.
Samsung Galaxy Watch and Watch Active are updated with Galaxy Watch 3 features
Samsung’s watches stand out for using Tizen OS, it is an operating system designed by Samsung. The company uses Tizen on Smart TVs and smartwatches, this way it has better control over updates. The 2018 and early 2019 Galaxy Watch and Watch Active are starting to receive some new features.
Under version numbers R810XXU1FUB6 and R500XXUF1UB5, these smartwatches are receiving a 291MB Tizen OS 5.5 update. This way older models will be able to use some features of the latest generation devices. While they can’t receive all the improvements (for example, EKG requires specific hardware) they do receive some notable features such as:
- Ability to view images that are included in notifications.
- Support for AR Emoji and Bitmoji.
- Voice guidance for workouts (running and cycling).
- Screenshots with scrolling.
- Voice guidance via Bluetooth headset.
- Performance and stability improvements.
As usual, Samsung has begun rolling out updates in South Korea and the United States. It is expected that as the days go by we will begin to see this update reach the rest of the countries.
