Google’s OS surpasses macOS in the market share
According to some statistics, it has been revealed Microsoft’s Windows 10 remains the undisputed leader with a total market share of 80.5%, compared to 85.4% in 2019.
The big surprise comes in the second position, as Chrome OS, Google’s operating system, managed to beat Apple’s macOS for the first time. Specifically, Chrome OS has the second-highest market share worldwide in 2020 with a 10.8% share, which is a considerable increase considering that a year ago it achieved a 6.4% share.
Thus, Chrome OS rose 4.4 points in just one year. For its part, macOS occupies the third position and took a market share of 7.5%, when in 2019 it achieved 6.7%. The rest of the operating systems, including Linux, has a total of 1.2% share.
One of the reasons Chrome OS has finally surpassed macOS is because, during the second quarter of last year companies like ASUS, Acer, HP, Lenovo, and Dell sold devices that has Google’s OS.
Similarly, supply shortages due to the coronavirus could also have played a role in this escalation. During the confinement, demand for laptops increased and Chromebooks stand out as some of the most affordable devices.
