Nothing, the new brand of the co-founder of OnePlus is now official.

Last October, Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, was leaving the Chinese firm after 7 years in search of new goals and solo projects. One of those projects was announced months ago and backed by celebrities such as YouTuber Casey Neistat or the inventor of the iPod, Tony Fadell, who did not hesitate for a moment to invest in Pei’s new company.

Now, that company is official, and its name is Nothing. According to Pei himself has confirmed in a press release, Nothing is a company dedicated to the development and production of smart devices. Although for the moment it has not been revealed what the company’s first products will be, they do state that they will be ready during the first half of this year.

What to expect from Nothing, the new brand from the co-founder of OnePlus?

According to Pei, the idea of Nothing is to “remove the barriers between people and technology”, through “beautiful, yet natural and easy-to-use technology”, so that it “remains in the background and feels like nothing”.

In that sense, the company specifies that it intends to create devices belonging to different categories, with the aim of creating an ecosystem of products that work in harmony with each other. And although there had initially been speculation that the firm’s first products might be related in some way to the world of audio, Pei has not dared to say whether speakers or headphones will be among the first products launched by the company.

In addition to that, Pei specifies that the company intends to make profits through the sale of hardware, and not software or services. In that sense, they plan to differentiate themselves from other firms by using custom-made components from the start, instead of using those already existing and used by other firms. With this, they aim to make Nothing’s products unique, something Pei could not boast about when he was leading OnePlus.

For now, not much more is known about Nothing’s plans. The company already has its own website, as well as Twitter and Instagram profiles where they will be posting news about their development and subsequent deployment. Undoubtedly, we will remain attentive to the movements of this mysterious firm.
