About two years ago, Facebook launched WhatsApp Pay, a payment system in test mode. The service was available only in India. And now Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook said that in the next 6 months, WhatsApp Pay will be available not only to all people in India, but also to other countries.
India is a country with the biggest number of WhatsApp users, where this payment system has already been tested with more than 140 million small businesses.
Is Facebook Pay and WhatsApp Pay the same?
As Mark Zuckerberg himself announced, Facebook is immersed in the creation of this payment system, which they hope to get running in more countries in a short time. We have no information how the social network company will differentiate it from Facebook Pay, or will it be the same system, but with different names depending on the social network.
What is clear is that Facebook is trying to introduce payments in its different applications, be it Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp.
Users on Facebook network keeps growing
In addition to the launch of WhatsApp Pay, the US company announced the change in user numbers. Currently 2.26 billion users use Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp or Instagram on a daily basis. According to Facebook, there are 2.89 billion monthly users, which is 9% higher than the past year.
Facebook managed to exceed Wall Street estimates in the fourth quarter of 2019 as well, with $21.08 billion in revenue, a 25% year-to-year increase.
