Reddit announced it is expanding its AI-powered search to include five additional languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. This update makes the feature available in countries such as Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy.
Users who have set one of these languages as their default can now use the AI search in a question-and-answer format. The company uses a Google AI model to power this functionality. The AI-powered search feature, part of Reddit Answers, was first introduced last year and operates alongside the platform’s traditional search function.
In August, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman reported that Reddit search has more than 70 million weekly users, while over 6 million people use Reddit Answers. During a quarterly earnings call, Huffman also discussed intentions to unify the search experience. The adoption of Q&A-style search interfaces has increased since ChatGPT integrated web search capabilities. Other companies, including search engines like Google and Brave, as well as startups like Perplexity, have also launched similar chat-based features.
