Discord has completed its implementation of end-to-end encryption for all voice and video calls on its platform, enhancing user privacy. This encryption is automatically applied to all calls made outside of stage channels without requiring users to opt in.
The move concludes a years-long effort by Discord to bolster privacy measures. The platform’s decision comes amid shifting attitudes toward end-to-end encryption (E2EE) among various social media companies.
While some platforms like Meta have removed E2EE from services such as Instagram DMs and TikTok announced it will not provide E2EE for DMs, other companies are introducing similar privacy features. Apple recently announced it would encrypt RCS messages for users on iOS and Android, aligning with increased user demand for enhanced privacy.
