If you don’t like your current profile picture on YouTube, you can easily change your profile picture on YouTube. You can choose to upload a new image from your device’s gallery or take a new one. Here’s how to do it using your iPhone, iPad, Android device, or computer.

Before you start: You need a YouTube account and must be logged in to your Google account associated with YouTube.

How to update your YouTube profile picture

Follow these steps to replace your current profile picture with a new one on either mobile or desktop.

Method 1: Using the mobile app

  • Open the YouTube app. The app icon looks like a white play button in a red square. If you aren’t already logged in, enter your email address and password to log in now.
  • Tap your current profile picture. It’s located at the bottom-right corner.
  • Tap View channel. This option is on the right of your YouTube handle.
  • Tap the pencil icon. It sits on the right side of your bio, next to Manage videos and the Analytics icon.
  • Tap your current profile picture again. A camera icon will overlay it.
  • Tap Choose from your photos. Your device’s gallery will open.
    • If you want to snap a new photo instead, tap Take a photo.
  • Select a new photo and tap Save. Reposition or zoom if needed. Your new profile picture is now set.
    • If you want to change your banner, tap your current banner and follow the same steps to add a new picture.

Method 2: Using a computer

  • Go to YouTube in a web browser. If you aren’t signed in to YouTube, click Sign In in the upper-right corner to log in.
  • Click your current profile picture. It’s at the top-right corner of the page.
  • Click View your channel. You’ll see it underneath your YouTube handle.
  • Click Customize channel. This button is at the top of the page, next to your profile picture. A new page will open.
  • Click Branding. This tab sits between Layout and Basic info.
  • Click Change. The button appears to the right of your profile picture.
    • If no picture exists yet, the button will read Upload instead.
  • Select a new profile picture. A pop-up window will let you browse your image file; choose it and click Open. Reposition or zoom as needed; then click Save to apply the new picture.
    • To upload a new cover photo, click Upload next to Banner image and choose a photo.
Pro tip: Use a high-resolution image that’s at least 800×800 pixels to ensure your profile picture looks sharp and professional across all devices.

Updating your profile picture on YouTube helps create a strong personal brand that viewers can easily recognize. A fresh, relevant image makes your channel more approachable and professional, encouraging subscribers to engage with your content. It also reflects your current style or topic focus, keeping your presence consistent as your channel grows.

Beyond aesthetics, a well-chosen profile picture can boost click-through rates on recommendations and search results. Think of it as your digital handshake—first impressions count, and this simple change can make your videos stand out in a crowded platform. Regularly refreshing it keeps your channel feeling active and up-to-date.
