YouTube has introduced an AI-powered Super Resolution feature that automatically upscales low-resolution videos to HD quality and eventually to 4K. The tool targets older videos uploaded in resolutions below 1080p, enhancing the viewing experience on YouTube TV apps. Original video files and resolution options remain available, allowing viewers to select the unupscaled version. Creators can opt out of the AI upscaling for their content.
In related updates, YouTube is partnering with select creators to permit larger video uploads, supporting higher-quality footage. The platform has raised the thumbnail upload size limit from 2 MB to 50 MB. User experience improvements include immersive previews on the homepage and a contextual search function on TV apps that prioritizes results from a creator’s channel.
