If you published a TikTok story by mistake, noticed a typo in the caption, or simply changed your mind, you may want to remove it before it automatically disappears after 24 hours. Fortunately, the process to delete your TikTok story is very simple and only takes a few seconds to complete from within the app.

How to remove a story from your TikTok profile

Follow these straightforward instructions to quickly remove any unwanted story from your TikTok account before it expires naturally.

  • First, open the TikTok app and tap the Profile button, which is located in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
  • Next, tap your profile picture at the top of the screen to open the story viewer and see the content you posted.
  • On your story screen, tap the curved arrow button located in the bottom-right corner to reveal a pop-up menu with more options.
  • From the bottom row of the pop-up menu, select the Delete option, which is represented by a trash-can icon.
  • A confirmation box will appear to verify you want to delete the story. Tap Delete one more time to finish the process.

Warning: This action is permanent and cannot be undone. You can repeat these steps for any other stories you wish to remove.

Pro tip: If you want to keep the video for personal use but remove it as a story, you can save it first. Before deleting, tap the three-dot menu button (…) and select ‘Save video’ to download it to your device.

Quickly removing a story you’re unhappy with is a great way to manage your digital presence. It allows you to maintain a profile that accurately reflects your brand or personality, ensuring that only the content you’re proud of is visible to your followers and others on the platform.

Correcting mistakes promptly, whether it’s a typo or an accidental post, helps you control your narrative. Since stories are temporary and often casual, being able to delete them gives you the flexibility to experiment without the fear of a mistake remaining public for the full 24-hour period.
