Amazon has announced a complete refresh of its Kindle Scribe lineup, introducing the company’s first model designed for writing in color. According to the company, the new devices are slimmer, lighter, and faster, and will incorporate AI-driven tools for note-taking and reading.

The new Kindle Scribe series consists of three models. These include a redesigned Scribe with a front light, the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, and a less expensive edition without a front light that is scheduled to arrive in early 2026. All three models feature an 11-inch paper-like display and have reduced parallax for a more natural writing feel. Performance has been improved with a new chip and memory upgrades.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft features a custom Colorsoft display technology, which Amazon states delivers a softer, more eye-friendly color experience than typical LCD screens. It supports multiple colors for pens and highlighters and adds a new shading tool for art and notes. The company also reports that the device offers weeks of battery life while maintaining the distraction-free reading environment of other Kindle devices.

On the software side, the Scribe lineup will receive a refreshed interface that adds a Quick Notes function and integration with Google Drive and OneDrive. An AI-powered notebook feature will allow users to search their handwriting and receive summaries of their notes. Amazon also announced plans for future updates, including the ability for notes to sync with Alexa Plus for conversational queries. New AI reading features are also planned, such as spoiler-free recaps and a contextual “Ask this Book” function.

This launch follows a previous Kindle Colorsoft release last year that experienced reports of screen tint issues.

The updated Kindle Scribe will be available in the U.S. later this year, with a starting price of $499.99. The Scribe Colorsoft will start at $629.99. The model without a front light will be released in early 2026 for $429.99. Amazon confirmed that launches in the UK and Germany are also planned for early next year.
