Instagram is internally prototyping a new feature called “Picks,” designed to help users discover shared interests among their connections. This unreleased feature was first identified by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, known for uncovering features still under development.
Screenshots shared by Paluzzi indicate that “Picks” allows users to select their favorite movies, books, TV shows, games, and music. Instagram would then identify overlaps with friends who have chosen the same items, fostering connections based on mutual interests.
While Instagram has not disclosed specific details, the company likely intends “Picks” to facilitate more personal connections and stimulate conversations among users. This aligns with Instagram head Adam Mosseri’s earlier statement that the platform would prioritize creativity and connection in 2025, exploring new avenues for users to engage with friends through content discovery.
The introduction of “Picks” could face scrutiny, as Instagram recently received backlash for its “Instagram Map” feature, with many users expressing disinterest. As an internal prototype, it remains uncertain when or if Instagram will officially roll out “Picks” to the public.
