Samsung has made significant updates in its One UI 7, rolling out new features alongside enhanced security measures for Galaxy devices, particularly the S24 series. Starting from November 5, users can access the beta version of One UI 7, which aims to improve usability while introducing AI-driven functionalities.
Samsung’s One UI 7: New features and enhanced security for Galaxy S24
The One UI 7 update brings a vertical scroll feature to the app drawer, a design change that aligns with what other Android manufacturers have implemented. Users can now adjust app icon sizes and utilize new widgets, which enhances customization options. Larger folders can also be created on the home screen, making app organization more efficient.
However, a new “Secured by Knox” watermark appearing in the app drawer has drawn mixed reactions. This persistent watermark displays in the bottom right corner, above the search bar, and cannot be disabled. While it presumably relates to the Knox security features, the watermark has been described as distracting by some users. Samsung did not previously include such elements in earlier versions of the UI, leading to concerns about its necessity.
In addition to interface changes, One UI 7 introduces critical enhancements to security. Samsung’s Trust Chain, a blockchain-based technology, facilitates monitoring of connected devices under its Knox Matrix structure. This function aims to bolster security amid growing cybersecurity concerns globally.
Moreover, Samsung has launched a new security dashboard that allows users to view security metrics across multiple devices and receive actionable recommendations for improvements. Passkey support through “Credential Sync” simplifies logins to Samsung accounts and integrates biometric authentication for various devices, including smart TVs.
The update also enhances Samsung Cloud data recovery, enabling secure transfers between devices when access is lost, employing the old device’s lock screen credentials for safety. Users will benefit from a new feature that blocks automatic reconnections to potentially insecure Wi-Fi networks.

Provisions for privacy are also apparent. Users now have the capability to remove location data from shared photos and can prevent automatic downloads in shared albums. Additionally, the update allows locked devices to restrict USB access, increasing the security of sensitive data.
Another notable feature is the introduction of Identity Check, a tool that requires biometric verification for sensitive actions when the Samsung Galaxy device is detected in a new location. This initiative further emphasizes Samsung’s commitment to enhancing user security.
Joining the One UI 7 beta program
The One UI 7 beta program is currently in limited rollout phases. Users of the Galaxy S24 series in select regions, including Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the U.K., and the U.S., can opt-in via Samsung Members. The program allows users to experience the new features firsthand while providing feedback to Samsung before the official release.
