OpenAI has introduced GPT-4o, which is described as its “newest flagship model.” With its voice, text, and image processing capabilities, GPT-4o is set to revolutionize human-machine interaction.
Mira Murati, OpenAI’s CTO, emphasized that making advanced AI tools available to everyone for free is an important part of their mission. In this direction, Voice mode, which was previously only available on mobile, is now available on the Mac desktop application.
Thanks to GPT-4o’s efficiency, customizable chatbots (GPTs) will be available in the free version of ChatGPT. In addition, users will soon have access to image analysis, coding, and vision tools without needing a paid subscription.
Is a ChatGPT Plus subscription still advantageous?
These enhancements to the free version call into question the value of the $20 monthly ChatGPT Plus subscription. Mira Murati notes that paid subscribers have the advantage of being able to make five times more daily requests to GPT-4o.
What can you do with GPT-4o?
Live Conversation: GPT-4o enables real-time voice chat by directly processing voice inputs. In the demonstration, an OpenAI staff member simulated heavy breathing to the voice assistant, who offered suggestions to improve breathing techniques, singing, and robotic voice qualities.
- Live streaming support: GPT-4o enables users to get real-time help during live broadcasts from ChatGPT. Students can present complex equations live, and ChatGPT can provide instant explanations and solutions.
- ChatGPT desktop app: The app, which has a natural voice interface on Mac, analyzes typed code in real-time and can detect potential problems. It can also analyze desktop images to provide feedback and insights.
- Real-time translation: GPT-4o can also be used as a live translation tool. The demonstration effectively translated Italian sentences into English and English responses into Italian.
GPT-4o is seen as an important step towards the democratization of AI. Free of charge and with advanced features, GPT-4o has the potential to redefine how humans and machines interact.
