The longly awaited LoL Skarner rework has finally been revealed, and it is safe to say that the champion has received plenty of changes. It used to be one of the most “primitive” champions in the game with its point-and-click ult and other abilities. Now, you will see a much different scorpion on the Rift!
Skarner, one of League of Legends‘ legendary champions, is finally receiving a facelift after a lengthy wait. While certain elements are still unknown, we have a solid sense of what to expect in terms of his skills and new appearance.
LoL Skarner rework has finally been revealed
The LoL Skarner rework has been a long time coming. Riot Games has already postponed it, but it appears that the wait will soon be over. Skarner received more than a third of the votes in the Season 12 VGU (Visual and Gameplay Update) poll. Fans of this Brackern champion may look forward to new skills, revamped aesthetics, and a new tale.
We haven’t heard much about Skarner’s revamp in a while, but a new developer blog has given more light on the modifications. While the entire unveiling is still to come, we have a sneak glimpse at what to expect, from his skills to his general appearance. Keep in mind, though, that some elements are still being kept under wraps, and the revamp may undergo more alterations before its scheduled 2024 release.
“Generally, the Scorpiones order in the Arachnida class have eight legs, two pincers, and two chelicerae (little mouth hands). However, having 12 appendages as well as 3 tails really clutters the read of the character—especially considering gameplay clarity. After testing and discussing the upsides and downsides, we decided Skarner should have six legs, with two positioned underneath his front bulk to help support his new gigantic status to give his silhouette some breathing room. Which, fun fact, makes Skarner a Hexapod (think flies, earwigs, or bees),” the official blog post said.
League of Legends Skarner abilities
Skarner’s abilities are still a work in progress, and they may change in the future, but we have a taste of what’s to come.
Crystal Slash
Skarner’s new Crystal Slash allows him to throw a big boulder at his enemies, causing area-of-effect damage and slowing them. What’s amazing is that he can keep the rock for a long and then decide when to let go. The longevity of this “rock-holding” capacity remains unknown.
Crystalline Exoskeleton
The new Crystalline Exoskeleton offers a massive damage field that acts as a shield for him. It appears to be comparable to his existing W, however we don’t know if the reworked ability will provide the same attack speed boosts that non-reworked Skarner did. It’s also unclear whether this skill involves crowd control effects.
Fracture
The new Fracture allows Skarner to go through walls, glide toward his target, and deliver crowd control effects to the opponent upon impact with an obstacle. We don’t know how this ability interacts with other champions or if it impacts many adversaries at once.
Impale
While Riot officials have stated that Impale will remain in Skarner’s arsenal, the new version allows him to capture many foes at once, as opposed to the previous single-target nature. However, adversaries may now avoid this ability, which involves two levels of harm. Getting away from Impale causes half the harm. Skarner’s gameplay gains depth and impact as a result of this update.
LoL Skarner rework release date
The LoL Skarner rework has been delayed significantly, and it is currently anticipated to be released in early 2024. Although no specific release date has been set, players will have to wait a little longer to see the redesigned Skarner in action. Fans of Skarner can expect an exciting upgrade that will breathe fresh life into this great champion.
LoL Skarner rework: Skins
Skarner’s skins are also receiving a makeover, which is long overdue for several of them. Several of his skins have remained unchanged since his debut in 2011.
Along with the makeover, the following skins will be transformed:
- Earthrune Skarner (520 RP)
- Sandscourge Skarner (975 RP)
- Guardian of the Sands Skarner (975 RP)
- Cosmic Sting Skarner (1350 RP)
- Battlecast Alpha Skarner (1820 RP)
