Is remote work good for you? Pros and cons of remote working
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Remote work has become increasingly popular over the last few years, mostly due to advancements in technology as well as the global pandemic situation all over the world. Remote work is simply put work done outside of the usual office environment. It includes various jobs in the areas of IT, assistants, writing, and content creation to name a few. This article will focus on all the pros and cons of remote working, and if it’s a good fit for you!

Pros of remote work

Well first, one of the biggest pros of working remotely is the comfort of working from your own house. It allows you to do the work more efficiently if you feel more comfortable and have a better mindset. Another important aspect of this type of work is having a bit more time for yourself. It allows you to read that book you’ve been putting away for later, play your favorite video game an hour longer, or play some online roulette at Joe Fortune. There are plenty of things to do in all that time you have been able to save due to remote work.

In addition to the comforts of a familiar place, and having a bit more time to enjoy yourself, you might also be able to earn a little bit more money than you would normally do in an office job. This is due to various reasons, but mainly, you can do more work in the same amount of time or the same amount of work in less time. It is very dependent on the individual person, but some of us really flourish in a home environment without the unnecessary stress coming from the workplace. Some people also prefer working alone and isolated, because it allows them to focus more on the tasks ahead.

The second reason for making more money that way is because you might be able to change jobs quicker so there is a way to skyrocket through the ladders and ranks of your desired career in various companies. You can also try to find a job in a foreign country and earn money in a different currency, however, it is not always a good way to work, because money is fluent, and some currencies have their ups and downs, so it is less stable that way.

Remote working also allows you to be much more mobile, meaning you can work while away from your home and in a hotel while seeing family or friends. You can even go to another country sightseeing, and still be able to work full-time.

Finally, is that it is a great way to avoid any illnesses and limit the number of risks you might be exposed to in the workplace. You will not suffer from any flu spread and are generally safer to work from home when it comes to minor diseases.

As for the employer, it also has a few benefits, better efficiency of the workers, and more work done in the same amount of time. However, in addition to that employers have much, much wider access to a huge talent pool of young and hungry people who are willing to prove their value. You can also find various experts in their respective fields and get the one that fits your company’s needs the most at that time.

Cons of working remotely

One of the main cons of working from home is the isolation part of the job. Of course, it depends on your personal preferences, because some people might find it easier to work with no one directly behind them, but some people like being overseen and having deadlines given from above. However, every human being is feeling lonely from time to time, and being isolated in your own house might make you feel more lonely than normal, which could very well impact your work.

Another con of that work is the lack of overall structure, so if you are not the most organized person you might have trouble working remotely in 2023. You need to remember more stuff and deadlines, you will not be reminded at the same rate that you would be at an office. It also can cause more trouble with collaborating and communicating between co-workers. Many companies rely on teamwork, and it is much easier to get something done in person, or even decide. It is much harder to properly pour our thoughts via text and even computer screens using cameras.

Finally, as we all know it all depends on the technology, and if there are any troubles with the hardware we are working on or with our internet connection which is very often required to work remotely, then we are unable to work until this issue is resolved, and we have to do this on our own or wait for a solution from the internet provider for example. Any technological issues might cause big delays in the work we do, no matter the field.

Is remote working good for you?

To answer it very shortly, it very much depends on the person you are. If you are an outgoing person and you thrive on contact with others, like working in groups, then you will probably perform better in an office environment. However, if you are a shy, introverted person then you might be able to find better success working remotely in the confines of your own house.
