We gathered a list of SAG Awards winners for 2022. The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on Sunday found itself in the unanticipated and influential position of being this year’s first televised event, following a few months that saw the Golden Globes live-tweeting and the Critics Choice Awards postponed to March.
This is especially interesting, given how the landscape has changed since last year when a large number of major acting awards remained up for grabs. Sunday’s prominent honorees might benefit from this, including Troy Kotsur, who was recognized as an outstanding supporting actor for “CODA,” Ariana DeBose, who won best-supporting actress for “West Side Story,” and lead-acting winners Will Smith in “King Richard” and Jessica Chastain in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”.
When the show played a clip from “King Richard,” in which he plays Venus and Serena Williams’s father, Smith began to tear up. Smith said the following:
“That may have been one of the greatest moments of my career just now because my name was called for ‘King Richard’ sitting next to Venus Williams.”
Although the SAG Awards winners are widely considered to be one of the most significant Oscar forerunners, recent winners have occasionally departed from tradition. The Academy Award for Best Actor and Actress nominees, who won the SAG awards, Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” was not able to win the Oscar last year. Only one category, the best actor, matched Oscar’s choices five for five in this year’s SAG Awards. In the supporting categories, the overlap was considerably lower, and only two of the five SAG nominees were selected for Oscars.
