Capcom has announced that Street Fighter 6 is now in development, nearly six years after the release of Street Fighter 5.
Following the conclusion of the Capcom Pro Tour fighting game exhibition, Capcom has officially announced Street Fighter 6, as revealed through a countdown website. The timer was supposed to come to an end at 9 p.m. PST, but it remained unclicked until the conclusion of the broadcast.
Street Fighter 6 has been announced with a trailer
The teaser gave a glimpse of Ryu in his superior form, as he clashes with Luke, the 45th and final Street Fighter 5 character who was previously announced to appear in the sequel. The franchise’s 35th anniversary was marked by the announcement of Street Fighter 6.
The company also announced the Capcom Fighting Collection, a collection of ten classic games from throughout its history, including the full Darkstalkers series. The Capcom Fighting Collection will be available for purchase on June 24, 2022, on PS4, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Xbox One.
With Street Fighter 6’s release, Capcom is hoping to have a more successful day-one than its predecessor. When Street Fighter V debuted for the PS4 and PC in 2016, it looked and performed great, but players suffered from some bugs and server-related problems. After additional updates to the game with Arcade Edition and Champion Edition, the game sold over six million copies.
The sixth version will be produced with assistance from Street Fighter’s longtime producer Yoshinori Ono, who departed Capcom last year after almost 30 years with the firm.
