Microsoft recently acknowledged the existence of two bugs in Windows 11 that could cause, in certain situations, significant performance losses, which manifested themselves in the form of very marked slowdowns affecting the SSD drive.
Microsoft releases the KB5008215 update to fix the SSD performance bug
Microsoft was working on a fix for these bugs, and it has finally been released in the form of a patch. With the KB5008215 update, these problems have been resolved. This bug we are talking about can cause our drive to lose up to 50% of its write/read speeds in certain tasks.
The changelog for KB5008215 update indicates that:
“This security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:
This update contains miscellaneous security improvements to internal OS functionality. No additional issues were documented for this release.
If you installed earlier updates, only the new fixes contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.”
There is no doubt that it is a really significant performance loss, so make sure to update your operating system as soon as possible.
If you enabled updates from Windows Update settings, maybe you’ve already downloaded and installed the fix automatically. So it’s best to check if you have any pending updates or not.
