The Apple AR headset was anticipated to go on sale in the second quarter of 2022, however an investor note from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed a new prediction regarding the release date.
Apple AR headset delayed
The note was revealed by MacRumors and according to Kuo, Apple’s augmented reality head-mounted display (HMD) will be manufactured in the fourth quarter of 2022. Kuo also said that, given Apple’s pattern of testing various design ideas to ensure comfort and usability, the tech giant is most likely continuing to experiment with various designs.
Kuo stated in the note that: “The AR/MR HMD requires much more industrial design requirements than smartphones because the comfort of wearing them involves so many design details. Therefore, we believe Apple continues to test the best industrial design solutions so far”
The most recent news is significant, given prior announcements and expectations. According to previous reports, the AR headset would go on sale commercially in the second quarter of 2022. It’s also unclear when customers will be able to buy an Apple AR headset.
Kuo also expects Apple’s AR headset to diverge from those such as Sony and Facebook’s. The most popular virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Quest and PlayStation VR, have been geared toward gaming and entertainment. Apple is prioritizing the use cases beyond gaming and entertainment for its augmented reality headset.
Kuo says what Apple wants is to provide an ecosystem that supports gaming, entertainment, and other AR platforms.
