Xbox says it will continue to buy studios and wants to release games ‘every quarter’
“We’re definitely not done yet,” he said when asked about other possible purchases by The Wall Street Journal. “There’s no set quota or time frame for acquiring studios at any particular time; but if we hit on a studio that we have a good fit with… absolutely,” Xbox would be willing to pay for it.
Xbox will continue to buy video game studiosWhen Phil Spencer stated that it was natural and beneficial for Xbox to acquire studios, which opened the prospect of future acquisitions, he wasn’t making a prediction; rather, he was simply acknowledging what had already happened. With so many reports about the acquisition, it’s no surprise that rumors of large studios or even Japanese teams continue to surface. But, so far, Microsoft has remained quiet.
The truth is that the last year has been marked by studio purchases, with recent examples such as Nacon Games buying 14 new teams, or what was already an open secret, PlayStation signing the authors of Demon’s Souls Remake. On Microsoft’s part, the company has been highly active in recent years, establishing a new video game division with plenty of expertise and prominent studios as we previously reported in our special dedication to Xbox’s internal studios.
