Desorden, a hacker group, has managed to breach Acer’s servers, the company confirmed the hacking incident. The hackers were able to steal over 60GB of data containing the personal information of millions of Acer users. The clients’ names, addresses, and phone numbers were exposed in the breach. However, sensitive corporate financial data was also exposed.
Millions of Acer users’ data has been stolen by hackers
The attackers themselves announced the breach, which was subsequently verified by Acer. In India, Desorden has breached Acer’s servers and obtained a large amount of personal information. Both consumer and business accounts are affected by the attack.
Desorden told that: “Affected customer data are in the millions.”
The hacker group exposed nearly 10,000 client account details as proof of the data breach. The rest of the data will be offered for sale, and there’s already a lot of interest from potential purchasers. We don’t know if the attackers will sell that information to outsiders or ask for a ransom from Acer.
Acer said it has taken immediate steps to secure its systems and conduct a thorough scan of them. The assault damaged Acer’s local after-sales service system in India. The company has then initiated contact with all potentially at-risk consumers.
Acer’s servers were recently targeted by the REvil hacking group in a ransomware assault. REvil asked for a $50 million ransom in XMR from the company. Acer has not responded to the allegations beyond acknowledging that “abnormal situations were detected” during the attacks. The largest known ransom demand to date occurred as a result of this data breach.
