The Game Awards 2021 will take place in Los Angeles at the Microsoft Theater with physical attendance on November 9. It is one of the most important video game awards gala which will be organized and hosted by journalist and entrepreneur Geoff Keighley.
The Game Awards 2021 will be held in LA on December 9
Since 2014, The Game Awards has been held every year in early December. But in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, it happened as an online event without an audience. Keighley announced the official event day on Twitter.
10 weeks from tonight, December 9th, we will be live on stage for @thegameawards at Microsoft Theater in LA.

This time, The Game Awards will once again be an in-person event, to be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. On many occasions that location also hosted the Microsoft or Nintendo conferences at E3. Anti-COVID-19 measures and protocols will be detailed in the coming weeks. The Game Awards will only welcome guests with an invitation. The presentation will be broadcast on channels such as Twitch, YouTube, Twitter.
“Our goal is to bring the entire community together to celebrate the most powerful form of entertainment in the world, and recognize emerging voices that represent the future of the medium,” said Keighley. Lorne Balfe, composer of films such as Impossible Mission Fallout, Black Widow or the video game Assassin’s Creed 3, will once again conduct a live orchestra. The event will not lack important guests (Christopher Nolan was who presented the award for best game of the year in 2020), musical performances and announcements from all companies.
The Last of Us Part 2 was the shining star of the event last year
Last year 83 million viewers watched the gala, doubling the previous year’s event. To get a sense of its scale, we can say that it was viewed by almost four times as many people as the Academy Awards that year.
The Last of Us Part 2 won seven of the nine awards last year. The most nominated games were Hades, Ghost of Tsushima, Final Fantasy VII Remake, DOOM Eternal and Half-Life Alyx.
