How to use any song from Spotify as a ringtone?
The easiest way to set a Spotify song as a ringtone is to download that song in MP3 format and then choose it as a ringtone from the phone settings. However, this is not what we are looking for, we really want Spotify to play when someone calls us. For this we will make use of MacroDroid, an impressive automation app.
MacroDroid is a free app and it is very simple to use. This tool allows Spotify to play a song when someone calls us. Once you have MacroDroid on your phone, and you have removed the screen lock, follow these steps:
- Open your Spotify app and find the song you want to play as ringtone.
- Click on the three dots and then tap on “Share”.
- Click on “Share link” and copy URL.
- Open MacroDroid, go through the tutorial and go to “Add Macro”.
- Click on the “+” trigger, go to “Calls/SMS” and select “Incoming call”. Accept the permissions.
- Leave “Select contacts” checked, click “OK” and choose “Any number”. Accept again.
- Now click on the “+” of actions, go to “Display”, select “Display on/off” and choose “Turn on display (Alternative)”. You will probably need the device admin permission.
- Click again on the “+”, go to “Applications” and click on “Open website / Get HTTP”.
- Paste the Spotify address you have copied into the URL section and finish with “OK”.
- Now type the name of the automation at the top of MacroDroid. You can name it anything you want.
- Exit the macro with the back button and accept the changes.
Once you have done the process you will see that, whenever you are called, Spotify will open and start playing the song you chose.
One drawback of the above process is that the song will still play when you hang up the call. This can be solved with a second automation, let’s see how:
- Open MacroDroid and add a new macro.
- Click on the “+” and go to “Calls/SMS”.
- Select the “Completed call” option, click on “Accept” and check “Any number”. Accept.
- Go to actions, add one with the “+” and go to “Multimedia”.
- Click on “Multimedia control” and accept with “Simulate multimedia button” checked.
- Choose “Pause” and accept.
- Give the name you want to the macro.
- Exit the macro with the back button and accept the changes.
