WhatsApp and Facebook kneel before TikTok, which for the first time becomes the most downloaded app worldwide.

China’s conquest of the technology industry continues. Just a few days after Xiaomi became the world’s best-selling mobile brand, now TikTok has managed to become the most downloaded app on the planet, according to the latest data from Nikkei.

The latest data offered by the company details how TikTok has managed to overtake Facebook and WhatsApp, thus becoming the app with the highest number of downloads in the whole of 2020.

TikTok dominates even in the U.S.

Not even the U.S. territory is spared from TikTok’s success. According to Nikkei Asia, the ByteDance app managed to overtake Facebook apps, including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger. All of them, precisely, are behind TikTok in that same order in the top global downloads.

On the other hand, the ranking of the most downloaded apps in Asia – which does not include China – leaves Facebook in the first place and TikTok in the second.

It does not seem, therefore, that the veto imposed last year by the US government on TikTok which was reversed by the new administration shortly afterward – has affected the success of the short video app.
